During the summer, teens ages 14-18 go on a summer mission trip, typically between mid June and the beginning of July. Prior to the mission trip, teens participate in a number of activities with local volunteer organizations learning necessary skills and forging new relationships. Mission trips provide our youth the opportunity to work with people of all ages and of many faiths in areas throughout the United States.
This year eleven of our youth traveled to New Orleans, LA to help continue the work of rebuilding from Katrina. In 2010, we traveled Arcata, CA to work with the native Wiyot tribe in their ongoing reclamation of Tuluwat Island. The island was forcefully taken from Wiyot tribe in the 19th century and used for a shipyard for the past century. Prior trips include a trip to work with the Nez Perez tribe of Lapwai, ID. A short video of that trip can be viewed here.
Sign Ups for next year’s mission trip begin in October when we decide on where to go next summer. Fundraising begins in December and continues through May.
Typically family contribution for the trip is between $200-300, and the rest of the funds are raised by the teens through our various fundraisers.
Scholarships are also available if the family contribution proves too great of a challenge.
