"To know and share God's light."

Amnesty International

Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights.  AI has a varied network of members and supporters around the world. At the latest count, there were more than 1.8 million members, supporters and subscribers in over 150 countries and territories in every region of the world. Although they come from many different backgrounds and have widely different political and religious beliefs, they are united by a determination to work for a world where everyone enjoys human rights.  Epiphany supports Amnesty International by signing and mailing letters supporting victims of oppression.  Letters are made available after Sunday services.  Some of the Human Rights topics involve the International Criminal Court, children, stopping torture, international trade, and the environment.

Bishop’s Blend Coffee

Episcopal Relief and Development brings you Bishop's Blend, a premium line of certified Fair Trade, dark roasted coffees from Central America and Indonesia. Through the sale of Bishops Blend, Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) will be able to further its mission of responding to the needs of the poor, hungry, homeless, and sick worldwide.

In addition to supporting ERD's ministry, Bishops Blend is certified Fair Trade, organic, and shade grown. This ensures that coffee farmers are being paid a fair living wage and gain access to affordable credit. ERD is working with Pura Vida, a Seattle-based company committed to partnering with organizations like ERD. One hundred percent of its net profits benefit at-risk children and families in coffee-growing countries.

To learn more about ordering this great coffee, visit www.er-d.org or call Bishops Blend customer service representatives at Pura Vida Coffee (877) 469-1431.

Chaplaincy at Stanford

Episcopal Chaplaincy at Stanford Hospital which provides comfort and counsel to hundreds of patients and their families each year.

Children’s Social Ministry

Epiphany children and youth will take part in a community service event instead of Sunday School, one Sunday each month in November, March and May.

Episcopal Charities

Founded on the belief that faith calls us to help those less fortunate, Episcopal Charities builds a community of givers to serve a community in need — connecting generosity with workable solutions to break the cycle of hopelessness. We serve the community in need by providing financial and organizational help to nonprofit organizations and parish programs that serve the poor. Some of these are "start up" programs designed to address emerging needs, while others have a proven track record providing homes for the homeless, food for the hungry, recovery for the addicted, education for children, and care for the sick. Epiphany contributes financially to Episcopal Charities and provides hands-on support when special programs arise.

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD)

Episcopal Relief and Development is a compassionate response of the Episcopal Church to human suffering in the world. Episcopal Relief and Development provides emergency assistance in times of disaster, rebuilds devastated communities after the immediate crisis is over, and offers long-term solutions to help people sustain safer, healthier, and more productive lives.

Healthy Cities Tutoring

Epiphany parishioners provide academic support and mentoring to children in the San Carlos elementary and middle schools by committing one hour a week to Healthy Cities.  The goal of this program is to increase academic success and self-esteem of the students.  Both students and tutors learn and grow in the program.  Tutor training is provided.  The commitment is one hour a week and can be arranged to fir most schedules.

Holiday Food Ingathering

Epiphany has three food Ingatherings a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.  At each Ingathering parishioners bring enough fresh and staple food to feed ten families, five from the Episcopal Mission in East Palo Alto, “El Buen Pastor”, and five families from the combined shelters of “Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse” (CORE).  We rely on parishioners to help deliver food baskets to the five Mission families.  Many make it a family affair.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)

The Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) program brings shelter, meals and support services to families without homes.  Churches of different faiths participate in this program.  The families in the program are housed at Epiphany for a one to two week stay.

There are two ways to get involved – hosting an evening meal for the families or serving as an overnight host.

  • Hosting Dinner – Two to three families will be paired to bring a meal for the IHN families.  The time commitment is from 5:45 PM to 8:00 PM.  We encourage you to bring your children – it is a great experience for them too.
  • Overnight Host – One person (adult only) per evening is needed to make sure the families have everything they need and to oversee that breakfast (provided by Epiphany) is served and cleaned up.  The overnight host typically sleeps in the library on the couch.  The time commitment is from 8:00 PM to 7:15 AM. jstafford@arpartners.com

Jail Ministry

Epiphany parishioners provide holiday cheer to San Mateo County jail inmates and their families at Christmas time.  Under the leadership of Frances Hart, parishioners bake cookies for delivery to jail inmates.  Saint Nicolaus visits the parish each year to collect gifts from our children and other parishioners for jail inmates to give to their children, who might otherwise go without.  Watch the bulletin and Beacon for collection dates and prepare to share the joy of the holidays.

Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together Peninsula is a non-denominational organization that builds volunteer partnerships to rehabilitate homes and community facilities of low-income, elderly and/or disabled neighbors so they can live in warmth, safety and independence.  Epiphany participates one time per year, generally in the spring, to support this program.  Your involvement could entail preparation in advance of the effort to on-site improvement effort such as painting, hammering nails, gardening and similar tasks.

Senior Outreach

Participants visit with elderly citizens at the Bay View Villa facility on a regular basis.  At Christmas baked goods are sent to various elder care facilities and participants join with the elderly for an evening of caroling.

Team Epiphany

"Team Epiphany" describes a group of walkers, runners and bicyclists who take part in events during the year to raise money for local community service programs.  Two primary programs are supported: The Human Race in May of each year and The Episcopal Charities Walk-a-thon in October.  Epiphany walkers and runners participate in The Human Race to benefit Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), a program near to the heart of this parish.  The Episcopal Charities Walk-a-thon benefits several Episcopal charities in our diocese and returns a percentage of pledge money to Epiphany for our Outreach programs.  Episcopal Charities also sponsors an annual bike-a-thon.

Youth Mission Trip

Each year Epiphany sends it’s youth on a Mission Trip grow spiritually and engage in service.  Previously, youth and adult advisors of Epiphany have made the journey to Mexico to build homes for people in need.  The group travels to Tijuana in vans loaded with food, tents, and tools.  A modest home is built from the ground up over a 3-day period using hand tools and materials supplied by Amor Ministries.  This is the second year of a new tradition, working with Group Workcamps Foundation on home-repair such as roofing, painting, installing drywall, and replacing windows and doors for low-income people living in U.S. cities in states like New Jersey and Minnesota.
