"To know and share God's light."

What is Outreach?

Outreach as a noun is defined as the act or process of reaching out.  Webster’s gets a bit more specific defining outreach as a systemic attempt to provide services beyond conventional limits, as to particular segments of a community.  As a verb, outreach is defined: to be more or greater than; exceed; to surpass in reach.  Taken in combination, it is the ability of one community to work beyond its boundaries in unexpected ways to provide for another community in need.

At Church of the Epiphany, we support a variety of programs whose main focus is to provide food and shelter and assistance to those in need, support youth activities and educate. Please see our current list of programs.

How can you participate?

Our Outreach programs provide for varying levels of commitment.  For example, Rebuilding Together and Team Epiphany offer once a year events spread throughout the year.   Other programs such as Second Harvest Food Bank are offered each month.  Sign up sheets for these events are generally posted in Eastburn Hall and are announced several weeks prior to the event in both the Bulletin and the Beacon.

We encourage parishioners who have a particular passion about a program to take a lead role.  Responsibilities include communicating to the parish about the program and coordinating events.  An Outreach Commission member is also assigned to the program and is available to discuss budgetary needs and provide assistance in the communications process.  Several of our programs are in need of leadership should you feel called to serve:

Habitat for Humanity
Heifer International

The Outreach Commission by-laws call for a rotation of members.  After this initial year, members will serve a two year term beginning each January.  In October, the commission will be looking for several new members to serve on this important commission.

What is the Outreach Commission?

The Outreach Commission was founded in January 2005 to establish a team whose mission is unify the direction of our current Outreach programs and extend our presence into new areas.  The Commission has developed by-laws for its operation, reviewed current Outreach programs and assigned a representative from the Commission to each, reviewed budgetary constraints and has launched the first fundraiser to directly benefit Outreach programs.
