Introduction to our Minister of Music,
Cort Bender
Our Minister of Music is Cortlandt Bender [Cort]. He was born and raised in
Denver, Colorado. Cort has degrees in Music with emphasis in Voice and
Conducting from Tarkio, College in
Missouri, and California Institute for the
Arts. He has done postgraduate work at
Westminster Choir College, and
UCLA. He has worked as a conductor, singer,
actor, composer, producer and stage director. Bender has been a church musician
for 35 years and in the last 18 years has been working as a liturgical
consultant in the use of arts in worship and in pre-architectural design. Over
the past 6 years, Bender has provided expertise in the uses of technology for
worship for several clients.
He founded the Schuyler Institute for Worship and the Arts in 1983. This purpose
of the Institute is to provide consultative work in areas mentioned above as
well as provide workshops to local churches, seminaries, judicatories of various
denominations and faiths.
Mr. Bender worked at Menlo Park
Presbyterian Church in Menlo Park, CA for 11 years as Associate Minister of
Worship/Program Director with responsibilities in Media and worship support.
Cort is continuing work on his doctoral studies in the area of worship.
