"To know and share God's light."

Adult Christian spiritual formation, a process that takes a lifetime, helps us look more deeply into our faith and apply the principles of faith to life.  It attempts to find answers to such questions as:

  • Why are we on life’s journey?
  • Do I sense any spiritual aspect to the journey?
  • How can we better understand and direct our journeys?
  • How can I get to know God better?
  • What is Jesus doing in the world today and how can we be part of it?

This ministry’s purpose is to provide adults in the parish an opportunity to connect with each other and God through prayer, Bible study groups and special programs with a spiritual theme.  The people in this ministry research needs, plan, coordinate and conduct programs that address these needs.

Programs include education, social and group opportunities ranging from seminars to small group discussions to formal curriculums, and are offered through such formats as:

  • Regularly scheduled discussions and classes
  • Seasonal classes and spiritual exercises coinciding with events in the church calendar
  • Ongoing small group meetings that address different topics over time
  • Seminars and lecture series
  • One-time events

The types of people drawn to this ministry vary.  Some people support programs through hospitality, technical assistance and event communications.  Others develop programs, present materials and lead discussions.  All have a sincere desire to serve God.

If you are looking to grow spiritually and connect with others in the parish, you may find this ministry very rewarding.  Or if you feel you are being called to be a leader, enjoy learning about and exploring new topics, meeting and interacting with other adults, and are looking for a closer relationship with God, then please think about joining the Adult Spiritual Formation Committee.

The ASF group meets monthly for 1 1/2 hours to discuss ongoing projects and future planning. Depending on a person’s interests, there may also be time spent preparing and conducting programs.

Please contact the Vestry Liaison for Adult Spiritual Formation for more information.
